In 1975, the violin dealer Jacques Francais organized with the sponsorship of the American Musical instrument Society an exhibition of instruments on loan from private collections in the United states. The exhibition was held at the Amsterdam Gallery in the Library and Museum of the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center in New York City. The exhibition opened on April 4 and closed on June 21st. Accompanying the exhibition was a detailed checklist of the more than ninety pieces that were lent to this project.
